Our staff are often asked the following questions.
When is the Military History Museum open? Are there any closing days?
The museum is open daily from 10am to 6pm, and until 9pm on Mondays. Last admission is 30 minutes before closing time.
The museum is closed on 24, 25 and 26 December, and on 31 December and 1 January.
Special opening hours may be introduced on certain occasions. Any changes will be announced here.
How accessible is the museum?
The museum is fully accessible to wheelchair users. Five accessible parking spaces are available for visitors with severe disabilities.
All exhibitions are wheelchair accessible.
Accessible toilets are located on the ground floor and the second floor outside the auditorium. There is another accessible toilet in the exhibition hall behind the main building that is only open when exhibitions are being held there.
There is ample seating throughout the exhibition galleries.
The multimedia guide can be used with a hearing loop.
Wheelchairs and walking frames can be borrowed free of charge from the cloakroom.

How much is admission and who qualifies for concessions?
Admission to the permanent exhibition is €5 (concessions €3).
Admission to special exhibitions is €5 (concessions €3).
A combined ticket costs €7 (concessions €5).
A family ticket for two adults and at least one child under 18 also costs €7.
Cash and card payments are accepted (excluding American Express).
Free admission and concessions are available to personnel in the Bundeswehr, as well as to children and certain young adults.
On Mondays, admission is free for all visitors after 6pm. On other opening days, admission is free after 5pm.

Where can I buy tickets for the museum?
Tickets are available at the ticket desk in the museum foyer.
How can I pay?
You can pay in cash or by debit or credit card (excluding American Express).
Is there an annual pass?
Yes. The annual pass grants free admission to all exhibitions at the Military History Museum in Dresden. The annual pass is non-transferable and valid only when presented with photo ID. At weekends, one additional person may accompany the pass-holder free of charge.
Are gift vouchers available?

Is there an audio guide?
You can borrow a multimedia guide free of charge from the museum ticket desk. QR codes are also available throughout the exhibitions, allowing you to access the audio stations on your own smartphone. Please note that this requires the use of your own mobile data allowance.
What are live speakers?
Our guides are on hand throughout the museum to answer your questions and offer short guided tours of selected exhibits and exhibition areas. You’ll find them in the permanent and special exhibitions on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 3 to 5pm, and at weekends and during school holidays from 11am to 2pm and from 3 to 5pm.
Can I visit the museum with children?
Yes, families are very welcome. For liability reasons, children under the age of seven must be accompanied by an adult. We also recommend that older children be accompanied, as some of the content may require explanation and is often easier to understand when discussed together.

Can I take a pushchair into the exhibition?
Pushchairs are permitted in the exhibition. Buggies are available to borrow from the cloakroom. Infants may also be carried in a baby sling.
Where can I change my baby’s nappy?
Baby-changing facilities are available on the ground floor and on the second floor outside the auditorium. Changing bags larger than 30 × 45 × 15 cm must be left in the cloakroom. Smaller bags for essential changing items are available there.
May I breastfeed my child in the exhibition?
Please speak to a member of our gallery staff if you are looking for a quiet place to breastfeed. Feeding from jars is not permitted in the exhibition rooms; please use the foyer instead. Infants in pushchairs or baby slings may bring feeding bottles into the exhibition.
How much do the museum’s educational programmes cost?
You only pay the museum admission fee; all educational activities are free of charge, including guided tours, the multimedia guide and hands-on sessions for children.
Where can I leave my coat?
A cloakroom and lockers are available in the museum foyer. These facilities are free of charge; a refundable deposit is required for the lockers.
What may I not take into the exhibition?
Jackets and coats that are not being worn, as well as rain-soaked clothing, must be left in the cloakroom or a locker.
Bags and rucksacks larger than 30 × 45 × 15 cm must be left in the cloakroom or stored in a locker. Approved items of luggage may not be carried on your back.
Bulky items may not be taken into the exhibition. Walking aids are permitted.
Sharp or pointed objects may not be taken into the exhibition.
May I take photographs or film in the museum?
Photography and filming for private purposes are permitted, but without flash or tripods. For copyright reasons, the museum may prohibit photography of certain exhibits or exhibition areas.
Commercial photography and filming are only permitted with prior written authorization and are subject to a fee as set out in the schedule of fees.
If you plan to take press photographs, please contact the museum’s press office in advance.
Where can I buy museum catalogues?
Catalogues of current and past exhibitions are available at the ticket desk in the foyer and in the museum shop.
Can I visit the library?
Yes. However, as space in the reading room is limited, please register in advance to use the library, either in writing or by telephone.

Can I have refreshments in the museum?
Eating and drinking are only permitted in the foyer and outdoor areas.
Can I buy refreshments in the museum?
Snacks as well as hot and cold drinks are available from vending machines in the foyer.
Is there a museum shop?
Yes. Visitors can purchase exhibition guides and souvenirs, such as mugs and tote bags, in the museum shop.
Is smoking permitted in the museum?
Smoking is prohibited inside the museum. Benches with ashtrays are available in the outdoor areas.

How large must a group be?
The minimum group size for registered visits is 10 people.
Can a group visit the museum without a guide?
Yes. However, please register your group in advance with Visitor Services.

How do I get to the museum by public transport?
The museum can be reached by tram lines 7 and 8 as well as bus route 64. Alight at Stauffenbergallee / Militärhistorisches Museum.
Is parking available at the museum?
There are 45 parking spaces for cars, 5 accessible parking spaces and 6 coach parking spaces on the museum grounds.
May I bring my dog with me?
Dogs are permitted on a lead in the outdoor areas. Animals are not permitted in the exhibition galleries.
Assistance dogs are permitted in the exhibitions, provided they have valid assistance dog identification.

Can I donate items to the museum?
Would you like to pass on objects from your own history or that of your family to future generations? We collect and preserve stories and artefacts. For this reason, we are always looking for material relating to German military history from its beginnings to the present day.
Please do not send items to us without prior arrangement. Contact us in advance and we will discuss the procedure with you. If you would like to offer us an item, please email mhmeingang(at)bundeswehr.org and include a photograph of the object.
