Collection areas

To fulfil its mission of preserving cultural heritage for future generations, the Military History Museum maintains an extensive collection.

The collection comprises more than 1.6 million objects. Selected items are displayed in exhibitions in Dresden and Königstein. Objects are also loaned to other museums in Germany and abroad. However, the majority of the collection is carefully stored in the museum’s storage facilities.

Library

An extensive specialist library complements the museum’s collections. For more information, click here.

All collection departments respond to specialist enquiries, support exhibition projects and contribute their expertise to a wide range of events.

Donating objects to the Military History Museum

Would you like to pass on objects from your own history or that of your family to future generations? We collect and preserve historical objects and the stories connected with them. For this reason, we are always looking for material evidence of German military history from its beginnings to the present day.

If you would like to offer us an item, please contact us at mhmeingang(at)bundeswehr.org and include a photograph of the object.

Please do not send items to us without prior arrangement. Contact us in advance and we will discuss the procedure with you.

Collection Map

You can find more than 110 collections in the Bundeswehr Museum and Collection Network on the ZMSBw’s interactive map.
